A lot of PC gamers have played an entry from Sierra's Tribes series at one time or another, and the incredibly fun gameplay of Tribes 2 led to a rather large cult following that became rather pissed off when it was announced that Sierra would be shutting down the servers for the game. To remedy this, and allow those remaining players to keep playing the game online, TribesNext steps in, allowing gamers to download the full multiplayer game, and then patch it to allow players to use new servers to login and play on any remaining servers for the game...for FREE. TribesNext is currently in beta, but from most reports is working quite well, so any of you looking for a fast-paced multiplayer shooter, especially if you're on an older system, look no further.

Following on the heels of the recently released Starcraft 2 screenshots, Blizzard has done us all another favor and reminded us of another game that we won't be playing until at least sometime after the first installment of Starcraft. This game is highly anticipated by millions around the world, and deservedly so, as from what we've seen so far, the game looks amazing. Click past the break for the rest of the pictures.

Are you one of the people currently subscribed to Blizzard's cash-cow hit MMO World of Warcraft?
Thought so... well, you may like to know that according to Blizzard the game has now hit that 11.5Million milestone that all the other MMO's could only dream of reaching. Oddly enough, here we are, running our own little PC gaming site and none our staff have even got past the trial due to severe boredom... maybe we are just strange, either way, it feels good to know that we are going against the flow.
Now go back to killing bears and pigs and waiting the rest of the night for your raid group to get together before your parents cancel your subscription so they can see you at the dinner table for once.
If you want to know if you fall under the bracket of "WoW subscribers", hit the jump for Blizzard's description.

Jonathan Blow, creator of the XBLA hit 'Braid', may be many things, and now you can count honest in that list as well. After originally announcing a "Late 2008" release for his game on the PC, Blow has now moved the game back to the February-March 2009 window for a reason that is typical of many game releases these days:
"I had originally announced the release date for the end of 2008, but for various reasons, this hasn’t happened. Once we slipped into mid-October and all the big Christmas-season blockbusters started coming out, it just seemed like a bad idea to schedule Braid for that time period, as it seems likely it’d get released and then disappear."
Thanks for the heads up Jonathan, and hit the link for the full post on the Braid blog.

Just a quick note for those of you looking to save a little cash. Steam currently has Stalker on sale for $5, down from its usual price tag of $20. That's a pretty big drop, so now seems to be a great time to buy. I wasn't very impressed, but there are tons of people who love the game.
Finally, a bit of good news.
EA has finally capitulated listened to its fans and will begin offering games via Valve's Steam platform. While I have my issues with Steam, it's far superior than EA's current service where you only have 6 months to redownload a game, or can pay an additional $5 to download it for the course of two years.
So what games will be available? Well, for now, you'll get:
But that's just the beginning. They will eventually be offering titles like Mirror's Edge, Red Alert 3, and Dead Space. This seems like they're getting everything on there. Let's hope it continues and they just use Steam's DRM.
Full press release after the link.
Read More »After recent news of a one month delay and the eventual addition of a multiplayer campaign, I am pleased to give you a few more new screenshots from Empire: Total War and tell you a little about its new "Road to Independence" mode. As you can probably imagine, this mode has you fighting as the Americans against the British in the war of independence. It sounds like a cool addition, though it will be single player only (as far as I know) so don't expect to be fighting against your friends, which is a shame because I can think of a few American people I know who could do with a good ass-kicking. Anyway, hit the jump for some more images.

Got a dull holiday period planned? Spice it up with 10 days of free Crysis Wars, the multiplayer component of Crysis: Warhead. From December 19th to the 29th, gamers can frag each other to their heart's content at no cost. To get in on this, download the multiplayer component and apply the recently released 1.3 patch. You'll have to sign up for an access key from mycrysis.com.
If you're in the UK and need to improve your KDR, I hear Sweedums makes for an easy target.

Hopefully you haven't been having issues with your copy of Tomb Raider: Underworld. But if you have, Crystal Dynamics has patched the game to 1.1. It weighs in at a health 108MB. Full list of fixes after reading on.
Read More »I won't lie to you; while I've always played PC games to some degree, I never became a hardcore PC gamer until far more recently. Either way, I've never heard of this. EA/Maxis have released the required specs for you to play the upcoming Sims 3, but the required specs are different depending on whether you're playing on a laptop or a desktop (as well as XP and vista).

Looking forward to GasPowered Games' RTS-RPG hybrid, Demigod? Well, here's something to tide you over until the game ships next year. Destructoid posted some new screenshots of the game and they simply look fantastic.
The image in this post is old-hat- head on over to their website to check out the fresh ones.
Sad about the news that Empire: Total War was pushed back a month from February to March? You shouldn't be.
Over on the game's official forums, developers confirmed the development of an additional feature: a multiplayer campaign. However, there is a caveat. The extra time isn't for the campaign itself, but to build a foundation for this campaign. The campaign will be released after the game's official release.
"Significantly the additional time will also allow us to implement the underlying technology for a much desired feature (thanks to your feedback!); a multiplayer campaign mode. An opportunity to participate in the 1 versus 1 multiplayer campaign mode beta will be made available to all Empire Total War buyers post release."
Listening to fans' requests? Adding feautures instead of stripping them out and selling them as DLC? Sega/Creative Assembly should take a cue from EA; treat PC gamers like garbage, disregard any and all feedback on the product, and then look bewildered that nobody is buying the game.
